Transformation, Beauty and Fertility
In ancient Egypt cats were considered benign and sacred creatures. Bastet was the feline headed goddess of love and fertility.
Cats are associated with other lunar goddesses including;
- Freya whose chariot was drawn by cats
- Greek Goddess Artemis
- Hindi Goddess of Birth Shosti who rides astride a cat
In China cats were credited with the power to scare off evil spirits while in ancient Rome the free-spirited cat was the emblem of liberty.
